Blackbeard's Ghost (1968) G Great

Peter Ustinov and Dean Jones both come through with an Oscar worthy performance in this great classic. Do not underestimate the gripping nature of this film. If you open your mind and heart to the characters, you will be moved in ways you never have been before. From the tortured existence of Blackbeard, who has been stuck in limbo for hundreds of years, to the fear and trepidation of a new track coach trying to establish respect for an all but dead athletic program, this movie touches on the ageless human struggle of coaching kids who stink while an invisible dead pirate keeps sticking his nose, and sometimes his sword, into the mix. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will never look at invisible dead pirates and new track coaches the same way again.

  1. Try reviewing a movie that didn't come out when bell bottoms and weed were the in thing.

  2. I'll be watching some new releases this weekend, and I will post the reviews, but we must not abandon the classics. Sometimes good movies come is waves. I think Disney was on a roll in the late 60's and produced some real gems.

  5. Movies today have lost that vital element that makes them great...ghost pirates horning in on extra curricular activities. Just think how much better a movie Remember the Titans could have been if Blackbeard was in their presence interfering with practice. Who's to say that Rudy didn't get his inspiration from an invisible sea-thug with gorgeous cheek hair. I have to agree with Getflix on this one...track coaches and pirates go together like jeans and pockets.
